A Galesburg man who shot and killed a man nearly two years ago during a burglary will spend the next four decades in prison.
Devontae Williams was sentenced to 42 years in prison Monday in Knox County Court for the March 2016 murder of Dakota Tinkham, the Galesburg Register-Mail reports. Williams was one of seven people charged in connection with Tinkham's shooting death.
Williams said he tried to pistol-whip Tinkham and accidentally shot him in the head during the burglary. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in October 2017.
Williams must serve 100 percent of his sentence, the paper reports.
