PERU, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

The Peru Police Department is shutting down a massage parlor for "potential criminal violations."

The department's Special Investigations Unit said the license for Lily Massage Spa, 3815 Progress Blvd., is being pulled pending further administrative proceedings by the city. The business was "red tagged" by police and city officials Monday morning. The property owner was also notified.

“The city of Peru won’t tolerate much less ignore situations like this. If a business like this plans to operate in Peru the message will be loud and clear and that message is you better conduct your operation within the parameters of the law and city code," said Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei.

The police department sad the long-term investigation included "many hours of surveillance both in person and via video surveillance and that investigative effort coupled with interviews of past customers led to this morning’s action by city of Peru authorities."

The nature of the potential criminal violations were not specified in a police press release.
