SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

Gov. Bruce Rauner has pulled former Peoria Police Chief Jerry Mitchell from a statewide crime commission following his abrupt departure from his job last week.

Rauner filed paperwork with Secretary of State Jesse White on Tuesday withdrawing the temporary appointment of Mitchell from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, effective immediately. The Capitol Fax political blog first posted the original letter

A spokeswoman with the governor's office tells 25 News Mitchell is no longer eligible to serve on the commission since he is not a chief of police.

The Peoria Journal Star reports Mitchell was under investigation for "inappropriate behavior" with a female subordinate at the time of his departure.

According to its website, the ICJIA "brings together key leaders from the justice system and the public to identify critical issues facing the criminal justice system in Illinois, and to propose and evaluate policies, programs, and legislation that address those issues. The agency also works to ensure the criminal justice system in Illinois is efficient and effective."
