American Heart Association ball puts glamour into fundraising

PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -

All of the River City and Central Illinois was dressed in their best to help raise money for and honor those who have contributed to the American Heart Association at the annual Heart and Stroke Awareness Ball in Peoria Saturday night.

Heart disease is the leading killer in the United States, and reducing that number is the reason the ball is held every year.

"Without the funds we raise for AHA, we probably wouldn't have some of the new life-saving (medicine) that comes from their treatment and research protocols," said Co-Chair Andrew Rand.

Rand continued by saying that just over the last few years, the death rate due to heart disease and stroke has dropped by a third.
