****Winter Weather Advisory - Now - 6 PM Friday*****
- Knox, Stark, and Marshall Counties.
Friday Through Saturday morning:
Where: Mainly along I-80
Timing: Friday afternoon through Midnight Saturday
The forecast remains on track from yesterdays update. Heavier amounts of snow will stay along I-80 through most of the day Friday. Light snow will impact areas near I-74 during the evening and overnight hours into Saturday morning. Accumulations in these areas are expected to be minor. This would include Peoria and Bloomington-Normal. Accumulations will be around an inch or two for Peoria heading into Saturday.
Snowfall rates haven't been very impressive so far even in the northern parts of the state. Confidence remains high with the storm track near I-80. Marshall, Stark, Knox, and Putnam Counties will see the majority of the snowfall during the mid-morning and afternoon.
Confidence is lower for totals near Peoria through Saturday morning. I've lowered totals for Peoria from 1-3" down to 1-2" with most of the areas along I-74 on the lighter end of that range.
Saturday through Sunday:
Impact Areas: All of central Illinois.
Timing: Mainly Saturday night through Sunday mid-afternoon:
Snowfall is expected to be on/off through the mid-afternoon hours. Accumulations will be minor.
The main threat for snow remains late Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. This appears to be a more widespread snowfall as the storm track should cover much of the viewing area. Light snow will move into the area after 9 PM. It'll be a consistent snowfall into the morning hours Sunday. Travel Sunday morning could be difficult at times.
The expectation is for moderate snowfall accumulations around 2-5" widespread.
Confidence level in this round of snow is much higher than yesterday. There seems to be an agreeance between the models with timing and placement of this system.
Snow Accumulation Forecast Through Sunday:
- Areas along and north of I-80: 6-8"
- Marshall, Stark, Putnam: 4-6"
- Peoria, McLean, Areas near I-74: 2-5"
- South of Twin Cities: 1-3"
I've dropped overall snowfall accumulations down an inch or two from the previous update. The main threat for snow in Peoria and areas along I-74 will be late Saturday night through Sunday morning. I dropped accumulations for Peoria from 4-6" to 2-5".
