Heart of Illinois United Way has officially wrapped up their 2017 community campaign with a slight increase from the previous year.
Throughout the year, United Way helps people all across Central Illinois find jobs, pay their bills and live a better life.
In total, the campaign raised $11,108,500 - more than 2016, and a 22% increase since 2011.
"The one thing United Way does when they raise their funds," explained Campaign Chair Bill Pape, "is over 89 percent of the funds go directly to supporting these programs that bring value to the community."
For the purposes of full disclosure, WEEK supports and donates to Heart of Illinois United Way.
