Retailer Sam's Club is shutting down more than 60 stores across the United States, but it appears locations in Peoria and Normal will not be impacted.
"After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition," said the company in a statement on Twitter.
Stores closing across the country were removed from the company's website Thursday morning. A store in Moline is among those erased from the store locator. Both the Peoria and Normal locations are still featured on the website.
A manager reached via phone at the Peoria location confirmed that location is not among those shutting down.
Many of the Sam's locations appear to be closing by the end of the month.
The announcement comes on the same day that sister company Walmart said it will raise their minimum wage to $11 an hour company-wide.
