One man is dead and another injured after a shooting earlier Wednesday
This makes for Peoria's first homicide of the year.
Peoria police are still searching for answers to give the families involved, it remains unclear who shot the victim or why.
What's certain, however, is one Peoria family is grieving and their pain and confusion surrounding the tragedy, is very much alive.
Amy Dotson, Spokesperson for the Peoria Police Department briefed Heart of Illinois ABC while the crime scene was still considered active, saying "We received a call on a male down in the 1900 block of West Starr."
That call came in just minutes before 1pm and when police arrived Harris was discovered on the 2000 block of West Malone street on the city's south side. Harris was immediately pronounced dead.
Jamie Hardwood, Peoria County Coroner said the "gun shot victim...was found in a car in a garage in the alley."
Another man who hasn't been identified was also shot.
Dotson explained "The second victim was taken to a nearby hospital with what is believed to be serious injuries."
While that man was being rushed to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria police and Harwood grappled with several lingering questions.
"I'm not sure at this point where on his body he was shot or how many times he was shot or what caliber he was shot with." Harwood expressed.
But he also added that many of the answers to those questions would be uncovered on Thursday.
"We are going to have an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow where we will be able to release more information at that time." confirmed Harwood.
The victim is from Peoria, the 800 block of Columbia Terrace.
No arrests have been made in connection to the homicide.
