A Toulon man was arrested on drug and battery charges after a weekend incident in Kewanee.
The Kewanee Police Department said Jason Bartman, 39, was arrested in the early morning hours of Jan. 7 during a traffic stop. Bartman was a passenger in the vehicle pulled over. He allegedly fled from police officers and struck and officer. Police said he also had multiple bags of what is believed to be cocaine.
Bartman was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer, resisting a police officer and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held on $30,000 bond in the Henry County Jail. The charge of battery against a police officer carries a potential sentence of three to seven years.
Bartman is set to appear in court again on Jan. 16 for a preliminary hearing.
