U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) is likely to serve on one of the House's most powerful committees on Capitol Hill.
Speaker Paul Ryan appointed LaHood to fill the vacant seat left by Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio)'s resignation. The Ways and Means Committee is one of the top tax-writing committees in Congress, with jurisdiction over all taxation, trade and tariffs.
“I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to serve on the Ways & Means Committee,” LaHood said in a statement. “With this position, I will continue advocating for central & west-central Illinois on many issues important to the 18th District and my constituents, including tax policy, making health care more accessible and affordable, free & fair trade, and protecting entitlement programs for current and future seniors."
The appointment will be confirmed by the House Republican Conference in the coming days. LaHood will step down from his current appointments on the House Committee on Natural Resources and House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
