Our coverage continues regarding the two Kroger stores set to close at the end of January. Kroger officials say the closures on Wisconsin Ave. and Harmon Highway are due to poor financial performance.
25 News is letting your voices be heard, and many have expressed concern that Kroger officials chose profit over people. Saturday we spoke with pastor Quinton Brown at New Beginnings Worship Church who said this change will cause greater need than we might expect.
"We're going to have to look at ministry in a whole different way, of meeting the needs of the community," said Brown.
"There's a lot of traffic coming through here and one of the effects you're going to find out because of this, is the fact that food pantries are going to swell up," he said, "because of the fact that they are going to have to serve a lot of the populations that don't have any food source here."
We'll keep following this story throughout the next few weeks, and we want to hear your thoughts on the food situation in the affected areas.
