Kroger is shutting down two of its Peoria grocery stores at the end of the month.
The Kroger stores at 2321 N. Wisconsin and 3103 Harmon Highway will close at the end of January. The Harmon Highway fuel center is also closing.
The company said the decision comes due to poor financial performance of the two stores.
"Kroger has long monitored operations, hoping the stores could return to profitability; however, recent evaluations suggest such improvement is no longer realistic," said the company in a statement.
Stores at 801 W. Lake, 9219 N. Lindbergh, 3311 N. Sterling, 201 S. Main in East Peoria and 1405 W. Garfield in Bartonville will remain open.
Kroger said its Human Resources team will work to find employees positions at other Peoria-area stores. The company will meet one-on-one with employees to discuss available options.
