UPDATE: Fire under control, no injuries reported at resort near Starved Rock

UTICA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

UPDATE 11:20 a.m.: In a press release, Utica Fire Protection District Chief Ben Brown said the fire at Grand Bear Lodge started just before 5:30 a.m. A request was made for additional support after the first engine arrived on scene when crews found an active fire. 

The fire was concentrated around the water park area of the resort. 

A 4th alarm level was called for engines and manpower and a 5th alarm for water tenders. 

Backup arrived from tenders. Agencies responding were Utica, Oglesby, Wallace Fire District, Tonica, LaSalle, Troy Grove, Grand Ridge, Peru, Naplate, Spring Valley, Standard, Cedar Point, Ladd, Mendota, Ottawa, Marseilles, Grandville, Sheridan, Serena, Earlville and Streator. In addition, salt truck support was requested from the Village of Utica and IDOT District 3. Northern Partners brought fuel for the units fighting the fire. 10-33 Ambulance provided EMS support at Utica Fire Station. 

The fire was under control as of 9:30 a.m. There are no reported injuries. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is at the scene.


Multiple fire departments are currently battling a large fire at a resort near Starved Rock State Park. 

A large blaze broke out at Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, LaSalle County Sheriff deputies confirms to 25 News 

It is unknown if there are any injuries, but authorities say it did start in the lodge. The La Salle News-Tribune reports the fire started in the water park area of the resort. The fire did not spread to the guest area. 

Salt trucks were called in to help fight ice at the scene of the fire, the paper reports.
