A generous person is once again donating a rare coin to the Salvation Army - with plans to buy it back.
For the third year running, the donor dropped a rare gold Double-Eagle coin into the Salvation Army kettle at the Canton HyVee. The Secret Santa plans to buy back the coin for $1,200. Last year, the donor purchased the coin for $1,500.
“This Christmas campaign has been filled with some wonderful moments,” said Lieutenant Sarah Eddy, “and we are so blessed that this donor has chosen again to share their blessings with our Salvation Army.”
Eddy is one of the few people who knows the donor's true identity.
To date, the Canton Salvation Army has raised $32,407 through kettles and mail donations towards an overall goal of $59,500. The kettle campaign runs through Dec. 23.
Donations can be mailed to The Salvation Army, 176 S. 1st Ave., Canton, Illinois 61520 or online at www.tsacanton.org.
