A Peoria Heights man has been indicted on charges involving the death of a 16 month old boy. The Peoria Journal Star is reporting 34 year old Joshua Rutledge was indicted Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery. A police report shows authorities responded to a 9-1-1 call at Rutledge's home in October. The paper says Rutledge claimed he was watching his girlfriend's son when the infant fell off the bed and hit his head on a plastic truck. The little boy wasn't breathing when police arrived. He was taken to the hospital where Coroner Jamie Harwood says he died two days later from blunt force trauma.Rutledge is being held in the Peoria County Jail on $1 million bond.
