Morton District 709 says the identified areas were sinks that are not used for food preparation or drinking. No drinking fountains were affected. Still, the levels in at least one case were more than triple the recommended level outlined by the EPA.
Results have been posted on the district website (www.Morton709.org) for public viewing. In addition, any building that had a finding greater than 5 ppb has individually notified parents in writing.
All affected areas will be mitigated and retested. Morton District 709 says it "remains committed to protecting student health and will continue to take all actions necessary to do so."
