As temperatures go down, dangers go up.
With that in mind it's Winter Weather Preparedness week in Illinois, and the City of Peoria will be treating roads a little differently again this winter.
The method involves "pre-treating" the roads, and Peoria wants to make sure you are aware of it.
Public Works Operations Superintendent Sie Maroon says it will allow them to get a head-start at keeping the roads safe.
Maroon says it is done with a spray called brine
As for the process, "we'll do that anywhere upwards to two or three days before a storm," said Maroon.
He says you do need to remember to use caution on the roads when you're behind one of those trucks.
It's the second year the city has used the brine method to help combat on-coming snow and ice.
As far as salt, Maroon says the city has a surplus of it, since our mild winters didn't require as much salt in the last couple of years.
