After a record year in 2016, the Salvation Army has a new target goal for it's annual, holiday fundraiser.
The Tree of Lights campaign got underway tonight at Peoria's Northwoods Mall.
And because the need for help is on the rise, the goal this year is $1.92 million dollars.
"We just need the community's help. The truth of the matter is our coat distribution has doubled this year already. And we've just started it," said Major Jesse Collins, Tri-County Commander.
More than a 1,000 coats have been given away, Collins said, double the level at this same time last year.
This is the 31st Tree of Lights campaign.
We'll keep you posted on their progress right here at WEEK.com and on the air.
