A deadly accident in Peoria County last month will lead to significant safety improvements.
On October 12, Kaitlyn Hines, 21 died in a two car wreck on Route 24 and Cameron Lane.
Her one-year-old son survived because he was properly restrained in a child safety seat.
An IDOT spokesperson says that portion of Route 24 is now going to get traffic lights.
"It will be a priority for us," said Assistant Transportation Secretary Rich Brauer.
He added that a design study is underway now.
It's a key stretch of roadway connecting Canton and Fulton County with Peoria.
City leaders from Canton and surrounding areas thanked state representative Mike Unes for helping to get IDOT take another look at Route 24.
