PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

The Peoria Police Department has released the names and the photos of the six officers involved in the Sept. 20 shooting of Eddie Russell, Jr.

The officers are:

  • Sgt. Matthew Lane
  • Ofc. Sean Johnston
  • Ofc. Christopher Heaton
  • Ofc. Tyler Hodges
  • Ofc. Jason Leigh
  • Ofc. Ian McDowell

Russell allegedly robbed the First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust, 3037 N. Sterling in September. Police said Russell ran to his parent's house on W. Sheffield after the robbery, where he allegedly stayed in the home for more than two hours before coming out. Police said Russell was shot after he "aggressively advanced" toward officers with a handgun.

Evidence showed Russell was shot 18 times by officers.

The Illinois State Police are handling the investigation. Peoria police released the names after receiving authorization from the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office. Peoria County State's Attorney Jerry Brady said he will review the case for any potential charges after the investigation is complete.

The officers are currently on paid administrative leave.
