The invite by the Boys Scouts isn't sitting well with top Girl Scout leaders.
Like its counterpart Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. is also more than 100 years old. some of its leaders want to keep with it's female only tradition. In a statement the Girl Scouts said " The Boy Scouts house is on fire. instead of addressing systemic issues of continuing sexual assault, financial mismanagement and deficient programming BSA's senior management wants to add an accelerant to the house fire by recruiting girls. "
One local scout leader agrees.

"The girl scouts have been serving the family model for years. if we have a little brother that comes to meeting with a girl they're called tag alongs in our organization. we've chosen not to register them out of respect for the same sex organization that does, the boy scouts," said Girl Scouts of Central IL C.E.O. Pam Kovacevich.
Wednesday the Boy Scouts announced that beginning next year older girls can join their group. That would give some of them chance to earn to highest honor of eagle scout. One local girl scout leader argues the girl scouts gold award holds equal high honor. But she thinks some girls who want to become eagle scouts should be allowed to pursue it.
"I think it would be great for some people that the daughters show interest in it. but then girl scouts, we have a really good program for girls to be strong, and assertive, and leaders," said Scout Leader Gwyn Oday
We reached out to the local boy scouts council to see if there had been any inquiries from girls wanting to join. But they had no comment.
