Peoria, Ill. - UnityPoint Health-Methodist announced its hospital is joining the Blue Cross Blue Shield Network on Monday. That in-network provider relationship is set to start January 1st, 2018.
The President of UnityPoint Health-Methodist and UnityPoint Health-Proctor says he is pleased at the expanded relationship with Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Dr. Keith Knepp says they've been in negotiations with Blue Cross for a while now, creating a long term relationship. Knepp says its Pekin and Proctor hospitals were already part of the network. Adding Methodist means all three hospitals will now be able to unite in its range of services covered.
"Better access to all the patients here in our region. It always means the ability to provide care coordination between all of our facilities", says Knepp. He adds that the change may mean more patients at Methodist, but they're prepared to take the necessary steps to accommodate them.
