Woodrow Wilson Primary hoping for newer, current books

PEORIA, IL. - On behalf of HOI News and CEFCU, we would like to send a special congratulations to our latest One Class at a Time $1,000 Grant winner.

After 17 years of teaching children to get excited about reading, it's Mona Wing's dedication that makes her our latest winner.

Wing has made it her mission to create a special atmosphere for the library at Woodrow Wilson Primary School.

"I have opened the library to everyone. It is a hub for people to come to. It is a meeting place. It is a place to gain knowledge and share knowledge", said Wing.

She also says that the school has an ongoing need for newer, current books because kids go through series so fast, she can't keep up. She plans to use the new grant to buy books of all kinds. Although, the need doesn't stop at the front door. Students have each been given a Peoria Public Library card to use on the 'Book Mobile'. This idea was something Principal Kelly Schuler was behind right away.

"She was always coming up with new ideas, 'can I try this can I do that'. When you open doors for our staff great things happen, like this", said Schuler.

The 'Book Mobile' visits every other Tuesday in the afternoon. Wing says that it gives students a chance to expand their minds through books.

In the future, Wing is excited grow the library and continue building relationships with students.
