Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will not run for another term.
The 14-year incumbent said Friday she will not run again, and will not run for another political office in 2018. Madigan, the daughter of House Speaker Michael Madigan, told Capitol Fax she's "ready to move on to a new challenge."
"I have dedicated my career to helping people. That will continue to be my focus, and I am looking forward to finding new ways to do that with the passion that I have brought to my work as Attorney General," said Lisa Madigan.
In a statement, Speaker Madigan said he's proud of his daughter's accomplishments, including her work on drafting tougher laws against child sex offenders and protecting victims of sexual assault, and increasing government transparency.
“No father could be prouder of his daughter's personal and professional accomplishments, and I look forward to watching her continue her commitment to helping people in a new capacity,” said Michael Madigan.
Republican Erika Harold, an attorney and former Miss America from Urbana, announced her candidacy for the seat last month.
