PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -

Peoria Public Schools approved a draft of their 'Safe Haven' resolution.

It aims to protect their students and families who may be undocumented.

Doug Shaw, the Chair of the Policy Committee for Peoria Public Schools says there's no way of knowing how many there are, but it won't stop them from offering protection.

Under the resolution, the school district will not assist any immigration officials with requests to pursue families who may not be legally in the United States.

The district will comply with subpoenas or warrants, but not simple requests.

While the future of the DACA program still hangs in the balance, but the resolution continues to remain in tact as a firm stance that Peoria Public Schools will continue to protect the privacy of their students and families.

The September 25th school board meeting is scheduled and the resolution will be reviewed again.
