UPDATE: Victim's name released in fatal Bloomington hit-and-run

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

UPDATE 2 p.m. - The McLean County Coroner said the woman who died in yesterday's hit-and-run accident on Morrissey Drive in Bloomington was 79-year-old Phyllis Graver of Carmel, Ind. The preliminary autopsy results show Graver died of cervical spine injuries sustained in the vehicle collision. The SUV Graver was a passenger in left the roadway and rolled over, according to the coroner. 

The investigation is ongoing.


A 54-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Morrissey Drive. 

The Bloomington Police Department said Darin R. Scott, 54, was arrested for hit and run and driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the accident. Shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police and firefighters responded to Morrissey and Chrisman Lane on a report of an accident. Two people on scene had serious injuries.

One was pronounced dead of her injuries around 12:45 p.m. Her autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. The other passenger was taken to OSF St. Joseph for treatment. 

Witnesses reported a vehicle leaving the scene headed north on Morrissey. Police later arrested Scott in connection with the accident. 

A large portion of Morrissey was shut down for several hours Wednesday for a crash scene reconstruction. 

Police are asking anyone who has seen the red van in the photo attached to this story in southeast Bloomington or along U.S. Route 150/Towanda Barnes Road on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to call Det. Power at 309-434-2579.
