A larger than life Abraham Lincoln sculpture is headed to Peoria just in time for Illinois' bicentennial celebration.
A 31-foot tall, 19-ton Abraham Lincoln sculpture entitled "Return Visit" will be installed off the Peoria Riverfront Museum's Sun Plaza on September 19. The sculpture depicts Abraham Lincoln and other man holding the Gettysburg Address. The sculpture was created by Seward Johnson II and is on loan from his foundation for a year.
“There has never before been a sculpture like this one in Central Illinois and we are proud to bring it from Chicago to Peoria in time to promote the Illinois bicentennial in 2018,” said John D. Morris, museum president & CEO.
The statue will be installed with a help of a 200-ton crane loaned by Morton resident Gingerich Crane. It will sit atop at 17x17 foot foundation.
