If you live in Bloomington you could soon be seeing a big increase in your sewer bill. Under a proposal being considered by city council, monthly sanitary sewer bills would increase by 73% percent. And storm water sewer bills would increase by 48%, both over the next five years. That means a typical household would see their sewer bill go up from $9.50 to $16.45 a month. City officials say it's necessary. As Bloomington's Public Works Director Jim Karch explains, "Unfortunately, the sewers in the City of Bloomington have been underfunded for decades. We are having to be reactive instead of proactive, which costs taxpayers more money than it should and negatively impacts our citizens."
