HANNA CITY, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

With Hurricane Irma coming so close behind Hurricane Harvey many southern animal shelters are bursting at the seams.

SAMS Rescue Shelter in Hanna City is coming to the rescue of several furry friends from down South.

Saturday morning the rescue took in seven new dogs from Louisiana.

SAMS director said the shelter the new dogs were pulled from were housing around 300 dogs.

She hopes they can process adoptions quickly as they prepare to take in more.

"With the floods, there is extra need because even though the shelter these guys came from isn't flooded. They're trying to make room at their shelters for animals that are coming up from the flooded areas," said Connie Davis.

Some of the dogs came too thin, needing surgery. or needing spay and neutered.
