HOI Emergency Relief Drive

Posted: Updated:

HOI News is partnering with Hy-Vee, the Salvation Army and the Midwest Food Bank for the Emergency Relief Drive.

As the South faces multiple hurricanes and massive cleanup efforts, Central Illinois has mobilized to help. We raised more than $53,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts with the Salvation Army.

But the need is still there. So now, we're collecting supplies at the Hy-Vee locations in Peoria, Bloomington and Canton from September 11-16.

Here's what's needed, and which Hy-Vee locations will host our Emergency Relief Drive boxes:

List of food/toiletry items accepted by Midwest Food Bank:

  • Canned soup, vegetables, fruit, pasta, & tuna
  • Peanut butter, breakfast cereal
  • Mac 'n' cheese, Ramen noodles, bagged pasta, spaghetti sauce
  • Toilet paper, paper towels

Hygiene items:

  • Soap (bar or body wash)
  • Shampoo
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Razor
  • Deodorant
  • Comb or brush
  • Nail Clippers
  • Wash cloth

A full list of disaster relief items needed by Midwest Food Bank can be found here

Participating Hy-Vee locations can also accept monetary donations to direct towards relief efforts. Donations can also be made here to the Midwest Food Bank or here to the Salvation Army.
