Innovator, forward thinker, driven…these are three words used to describe Shalandra.
Shalandra works with high risk youth 13 – 21 through the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice.
Her job is to reduce the number of youth returning on warrants.
Harsher sanctions were not the answer, but providing the skills necessary for these minors to succeed was and the Day Reporting Center in Peoria was created.
Shalandra helped to plan and organize the Day Reporting Center’s program which includes education, skills training, substance abuse counseling and mental health therapy all under one roof. As a result the numbers of children returning into the system has demised significantly. Let’s thank Shalandra for her efforts in improving the lives of our youth and let’s join together to welcome her into the 25 Women in Leadership.
