There's been another delay in the reopening of Peoria's largest downtown hotel the Four Points by Sheraton.
Given the fresh new entrance it's clear Hawkeye Hotels is overhauling the 21 thousand square foot hotel.. But the general manager says given the magnitude of the renovations delays were imminent.
"If you have a section of hotel that you have plumbing to do work on and you open the wall up more plumbing is anticipated being completed than necessary. we're taking time to do that. safety and security procedures are very tantamount in this area to make sure all of those are done correctly," said Four Points by Sheraton General Manager John Brinkman.
Brinkman says crews have installed a brand new swimming pool but are still revamping areas around it. He says work on the rooms and balconies are also ongoing and much of the wiring, ventilation and other equipment has been completely replaced.
Brinkman says 140 employees will be hired to work at the hotel but adds that part will not start until after the first of the year. With 325 guest rooms Four Points is downtown Peoria's largest single hotel. But it's been closed since October of 2013.
"The rooms are all but complete. we have all the furniture and fixtures in them. however we don't have the towels in the rooms clean ready for our guests at this point," Brinkman said.
Peoria city leaders say it's the kind of property that could help bring large sporting events and conventions to the city. But right now the waiting will continue at least until the first quarter of next year.
