State Fair's butter cow exhibit makes its debut

Why have one butter cow, when you can have two?

The 2017 Illinois State Fair Butter Cow was unveiled Wednesday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Created by artists Saran and Andy Pratt, the cows in the exhibit feature nine hidden hearts that represent the nine essential nutrients in milk.

"The Butter Cow is one of the most photographed and most visited attractions of the Illinois State Fair," said Illinois Agriculture Director Raymond Poe. "For more than 90 years, fairgoers have looked forward to this buttery bovine creation. We are extremely proud of our partnership with the Midwest Dairy Association, which allows us to keep this long-standing tradition alive at the Illinois State Fair, and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for this year's sculpture."

Also present was Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Claudia VanOpdorp, who hails from Annawan in Henry County.

The fair is slated to run August 10-20 in Springfield. To find out more information, visit the state fair's website
