A new Route 66 gift shop and information center is set to open in the former Sprague's Super Service station in Normal this weekend.
Ryburn Place will open in the historic gas station, 305 E. Pine St., on Saturday, August 12 from 6-9 p.m. The station's restoration was a longtime project of local resident Terri Ryburn, who sold the building to the Town of Normal a year ago after running out of funds to complete the job.
Saturday's ribbon cutting will also include the unveiling of a National Register of Historic Places plaque and a concert in the parking lot.
The building was opened in 1931 by William Sprague. The property featured a cafe, gas station and garage, and apartments for the gas station owner and attendant.
