Fatal accident has neighborhood asking for help

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

A fatal accident on Peoria's North side has residents asking police for back up on their streets.

This is the second accident on Frostwood Parkway in the past two weeks.

Police said a 16-year old veered off the road and into a neighbors drive way and through their garage door.

Last night's accident took the life of Zachary Gardner.

Police said the 47-year old was driving North when he lost control of his Jeep Grand Cherokee and hit a tree.

Gardner was pronounced dead on scene.

It's unclear whether or not Gardner was wearing a seat belt or what caused him to lose control.

But people who live in the neighborhood tell 25 NEWS that while the speed limit is marked at 30, they feel most people are going closer to 45 or 50.

One resident said he heard the car accelerating as he drove by his house and then moments later heard the crash.

Several also expressed that they want police to step up patrols in that area.

The Gardner case is still under investigation and toxicology results are pending.
