Peoria Police say car theft is on the rise

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -

Peoria police say it's very possible that your car is being watched and the best thing you can do is make sure your car doors are locked when left unattended.

The police department has seen a significant increase in car burglaries and stolen vehicles in the past month.
The majority of the cases involved unlocked cars.
Authorities believe groups of young people could be to blame.

Loren Marion, of the Peoria Police Department, said "Going back 30 days from today there have been 182 burglaries from motor vehicles compared to 103 burglaries in 2016 in that same time frame."
So again police say you should always lock your car doors. Never leave valuables in you car. And don't keep spare keys inside your vehicle.
