Businesses back to normal after Sheridan road reopens

Posted: Updated:

Business is up in a section of Peoria after a road reopens. The Peoria public works department completed the Sheridan road construction project this week. The section between Nebraska and McClure is now fully open. Local businesses tell us that's good news since their business was significantly down while the road was closed.

Anwar Haj, Coopers Express co-manager, said, "before it would just be short spurts of people; but now it's more continuous people so the road opening has definitely helped us out a lot."

Adrienne Deloatche, from urban beauty, said, "it basically cut our business down in half. People were taking back alley ways to get here and no one really knew exactly how to get here. It really just took a damper to our business, but now that the street's open it brought all our business back, the stoplight's there, and it's really just done a tremendous job."

Deloatche also says she's happy the work is done since her commute was taking an extra fifteen to twenty minutes.  One of the biggest upgrades includes a stoplight at the intersection of Sheridan and McClure. All that's left on the project is minor landscape work that'll be completed this fall.
