Electric power company, Ameren Illinois, is getting a bird's eye view when it comes to storm and emergency response. The company says is launching a fleet of drones for its daily operations. The drones are going to be used for enhancing storm and emergency response and surveying land.
Ameren says that the drones allow them to use innovative technology to keep employees safe. Currently they have 36 employees that are licensed and trained to use drones.
John Barud, Ameren Illinois senior director of operations, says, "It really enhances the work that we do. It can make things safer for us. It can make us more efficient. If you can imagine flying one of these drones that's tough to get into -- can't drive to it -- have a hard time walking to it."
The company plans on having a at least one licensed drone operator at all its operating centers.
