Quest Charter Academy students were greeted with quite the welcome on their first day today, thanks to Peoria's "Village of Men." As the students headed inside more than 100 men from throughout the community lined the sidewalk, offering students high fives and encouraging words.
"Village of Men" volunteer, Tim Kaufman, M.D. said the annual event is meant to not only make the first day fun but to also remind students that their community is standing behind them.
"Our community really does care about these kids, wants them to succeed and to know that in America you can do whatever you want to do, you can succeed, you just have to work hard, stay in school, stay out of trouble, and stay focused," Kaufman said.
The idea for today's "Village of Men" was the brainchild of the Quest administration and community liaisons.
The committee was compromised of men to expose students to more positive male role models.
