While most students in the area have at least a couple weeks before they have to pack their backpacks, some local kids headed back to class today. That's because today marked the first day of school for students at Quest Charter Academy in Peoria.
The early start this year marks the beginning of a move to a balanced calendar, which staff explains means the same amount of school days, but more breaks spaced throughout the year.
It also means a slightly shorter summer break. But students we spoke to were excited and didn't seem to mind.
"I'm happy, because now I'm back with my friends and i can learn about the stuff I'm supposed to," said returning student Lincoln Williams when asked if he was glad to be back.
Another change for Quest this year, the implementation of career academies at the high school level, offering more hands-on experiences to students throughout the year.
