UPDATE: Ex-Pekin police officer arrested after 6-hour standoff

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Police have arrested a former member of the Pekin Police force after a six-hour standoff at the Wiliamsburg Apartments Monday morning.

Police arrived to find a man had fired three shots within an apartment. Attempts to communicate were unsuccessful. The suspect is 41-year-old Joseph Wagle, who resigned from Pekin's police force in 2014. 

The Central Illinois Emergency Response Team deployed around the building and evacuated the apartment building for safety. After more than five hours, police entered the building to find Wagle had shot himself in the head. He was conscious when arrested by police.

The Illinois State Police are now handling the investigation. They will work with the Tazewell County State's Attorney on any potential charges.

Wagle was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown. 


UPDATE 9 a.m.: Pekin police confirm the suspect is in custody. Police are investigating the incident.


UPDATE 8:15 a.m.: A reporter on the scene said someone has been loaded into an ambulance. Police are leaving the scene. 


Pekin police are currently involved in a standoff with a male suspect at an apartment complex. 

Our news partners at Newsradio 1470 report it began around 2 AM Monday just off the 1200 block of Florence Avenue in Pekin.

Reports indicate multiple shots have been fired, and police have surrounded the suspect's door, asking for him to come out.

SWAT teams are on the scene.
