A local camp is celebrating 80 years in the Heart of Illinois this weekend.

Campers and scouts from the past and present gathered at Camp Wokanda in Chillicothe this afternoon, sharing stories and bringing in old memorabilia, dating back to when the camp opened in 1937.
A slideshow presentation showed the rich history of the camp and while much has changed, many say the memories made here remain timeless.

"they're getting to see things that they probably may not have seen since they were a teenager or before, and they're getting to show their families, which is even more important because now the park is not just a scout camp it's for everybody, so the more people who get to see it and understand it better, the more people utilize the property," says Cathy Lane, a ranger

"to see the outpouring of people here that have come today and yesterday, a lot of old faces lot of old friends i haven't seen in ages, it's been a wonderful time this weekend," says Mike Stobaugh a former ranger.

The camp is open all year round for anyone who wants to enjoy the great outdoors and learn more about Camp Wokanda.
