An early morning garage fire spelled the end for a classic car this morning.
Firefighters in Normal responded to a fire in the 100 block of E. Irving around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning to discover flames shooting through the roof of a detached garage. Off-duty firefighters were called in to help due to the garage roof's potential instability, and crews worked to remove siding and wall material to allow the fire and heat to ventilate. Hose lines were used to fight the fire from the exterior.
An antique vehicle stored in the garage was destroyed in the fire. Both the garage and the vehicle were insured. The damage to the garage is around $25,000, but the value of the vehicle isn't yet known.
The fire department is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
