Five victims ID'ed in car-train crash

Five elderly travelers ranging in age from 77 to 89 have died in a train versus vehicle crash in Christian County. 

The Illinois State Police said the car was travelling southbound on Christian County Road 1800N at IL Route 16 just before 7 p.m. Wednesday when it failed to yield the right-of-way to an oncoming train. The train struck the 2009 Chrysler Town and Country on the driver's side. 

The people killed are Herbert Castle, Mary Pugsley, John Castle, Neil Castle and Mary Castle, all of Pana, Ill. Three of the occupants of the vehicle were declared dead at the scene. The other two occupants were flown to St. Louis area hospitals, where they died of their injuries. 

Pana is about an hour southeast of Springfield.
