New bike-share program rolls out in the Peoria area

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

There's a new way for Peoria-area residents to get around, thanks to a bike-share program that's been in the works for two years.

It's called City Cycle.

Enjoy Peoria and Zagster worked together to make this vision a reality.

There will be five bikes at each station, with room for up to ten on each bike rack.

"We could've had two racks and they would have worked with us. So they kind of helped us with enough racks to where they thought it would make sense and still be successful but not too much to overwhelm us and the ridership at first," said Kaci Geier, Enjoy Peoria Community Development Manager.

"It fits well in the complete streets that the city is talking about, making our community more pedestrian and more bicycle-friendly. Most of the planning that we're doing now with new roads and infrastructure involves having bike lanes so we can encourage people to use bikes more often," said Mayor Jim Ardis.

You don't have to go to just one place to get a bike because there's six different locations.

1. East Peoria Levee District Promenade
2. Peoria City Hall
3. Riverplex
4. Upper Bradley Park
5. Heritage Square in Peoria Heights
6. Junction City

It's simple to use the program.

All you have to do is download the app Zagster.

Each bike will be inspected every two weeks.

Riders can pay as they go or sign up for weekly, monthly or yearly packages.
