GALESBURG, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

A Galesburg woman is in the Knox County Jail after an accident that left a two-year-old dead.

Galesburg police said 60-year-old Rosie Lee Oden struck the toddler in the 1000 block of W. South St. just before 2 p.m. Thursday and left the scene. A witness told officers on the scene they heard a loud noise. When they went to investigate the noise, the witness said he or she saw the injured child lying in the street and a red SUV driving away.

The child was taken to Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

As police were looking for the vehicle, they said Oden called to turn herself in. Oden was arrested for unsafe backing on a roadway, failure to report an accident involving death, failure to give information and render aid, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and no valid driver's license.

The victim is identified as Ki'ale Watkins of Galesburg.
