Bond for Cleve Heidelberg is set at $500,000 in the 1970 murder of a Peoria County Sheriff's Sergeant.
Judge Albert Purham ruled Friday that Heidelberg must pay $50,000, or 10 percent, for release from the Peoria County Jail. Heidelberg has been held there pending his bond hearing after his 1970 murder conviction in the case of Sgt. Raymond Espinoza was vacated last month.
Purham emphasized that he never acquitted Heidelberg of the murder. Heidelberg's defense attorney Andy Hale must work out an exact address for where Heidelberg will stay, and to confirm he can be tracked via a GPS monitoring device.
Heidelberg is next set to appear in court May 25 for a review.
