One person is dead after crashing into a natural gas line on Illinois Route 116 in East Peoria on Thursday.
The Illinois State Police said a tan 2005 Chevrolet Impala left the road near the intersection of 116 (N. Main St.) and Ten Mile Creek Rd., striking a natural gas line entering a building in the 5500 block of N. Main. The line was severed as a result of the crash.
Route 116 was closed between Upper Spring Bay Rd. and Illinois Route 26, and nearby businesses were evacuated. Ameren closed the gas line.
The driver was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Their identity isn't being revealed by authorities pending notification of the family. The accident is under investigation.
