The Dunlap School District and Peoria County Sheriff's Office are urging caution after a teenage girl was allegedly assaulted on the Rock Island Trail.
Law enforcement said a 17-year-old reported on Monday that a man grabbed her arm while she was on a jog on the trail in Dunlap, near Cedar Hills Dr. The incident report said the girl first ran north past a man walking south on the trail. When she turned around to jog back, she said the man tried to grab her arm.
The girl said she was able to run away. The man reportedly ran into the woods, and he could not be located later.
The incident is under investigation. The sheriff's office said people should be extra cautious and exercise situational awareness.
