PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

You might know him as the janitor on scrubs, or maybe Mike Heck on the Middle. Of, if you're a fan of the movie mean girls you'll recall he played Lindsay Lohan's dad.

But Monday night Neil Flynn was in Peoria playing a different role.. that of a Bradley Alumni.

Before taking on Hollywood, Flynn used to own the stage as a Bradley speech team member in the 80's.

He was back in the river city to accept the distinguished alumni award from the current speech team.

In return he gave them some advice...  such as taking advantage of the improv scene in Chicago if they're looking to break into the biz.

"I've always had in my head to get back here, yeah to see the campus and so on but also the students and answer any questions they may have. To get back in touch with today's young people," said Flynn.

Flynn is not a native to the area.

He actually grew up in neighboring Indiana.

But he said he chose to go to Bradley because of the strong speech program.
